Mark Edward Fischbach (born June 28, 1989), known by his YouTube username Markiplier, is an
American internet personality,video game commentator, and charity fundraiser. Originally from O'ahu, Hawaii, Fischbach began his career in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is currently based in Los Angeles, California.[2] As of June 17, 2015, his channel has over 8 million subscribers, over 2.4 billion total video views, and is the 49th most subscribed channel on YouTube. Fischbach specializes in Let's Play gameplay commentary videos and indie games, commonly of survival horror and action video games. He is best known for his "comedic" gameplay commentary.[5]

Internet video career[]
Fischbach first joined YouTube on May 26, 2012, creating a channel under the username "Markiplier". Fischbach's first series was a playthrough of the video game Amnesia: The Dark Descent. After playing several other game series, including Penumbra and Dead Space, YouTube banned Fischbach's AdSense account. Though he appealed to YouTube as a last effort, the appeal was ultimately lost.[6] Because of this, a new and current channel was created and dubbed MarkiplierGAME. This account has over eight million subscribers and 2.5 billion total views as of June 29, 2015.[7]
In 2014, Fischbach's YouTube Channel, Markiplier, was listed on New Media Rockstars Top 100 Channels, ranked at #61.[8]
At the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con, Fischbach appeared on a panel with Red Giant Entertainment including Benny Powell (Wayward Sons), David Campiti (Pandora's Blogs), Mort Castle (Darchon), David Lawrence, and Brian Augustyn.[9] He also co-hosted the 2015 South By Southwest (SXSW) Gaming Awards with The Legend of Korra voice actor Janet Varney.[10]
Fischbach joined the Red Giant Entertainment board in November 2014.[11]
Hospitalization[]
On March 22, 2015,[12] Fischbach posted a video explaining that he had been hospitalized with a "non-life-threatening" illness, which was followed by other updates while he recuperated, clarifying that he had suffered an intestinal blockage, specifically a small bowel obstruction, which can actually be fatal. The obstruction required surgical removal. The video updates gathered millions of views over several days as the situation developed, with Markiplier acknowledging the "incredible" amount of support and well-wishes his viewers had sent him during that time.[13]
